In That Hideous Strength, C.S. Lewis wrote, "Human strengths have a dark side. Our strengths under duress become our weaknesses. Our strengths contain seeds of our destruction." What does Gallup make of this?

We disagree with this idea. Strengths do not have a "dark side." Nor do strengths "under duress become our weaknesses." A strength is simply the ability to provide consistent, near-perfect performance in a given activity. The "seeds of our destruction" would be found not in our strengths, but in why and how we use them.

The ability to persuade dynamically is a strength, as is the ability to network effectively. A strength is a resource, like money or electricity, and, as with any resource, it can be employed wisely or poorly.

Don't be frightened or suspicious of your strengths. Instead, be respectful of them. Understand the talents on which they are built, and be aware of their power. Learn how to channel them productively. Your strengths will become your most trusted resources, in good times and in bad.
