StrengthsFinder 2.0 by Tom Rath marks a major milestone this month with 1.5 million books in print and 1 million copies sold. StrengthsFinder 2.0 was published in February 2007 and quickly hit the bestseller lists of USA TODAY, BusinessWeek and The Wall Street Journal -- a list it has made every week since the book's publication three years ago.

In the 2001 New York Times bestseller Now, Discover Your Strengths, Gallup ignited a global conversation about the idea that success is built on identifying and developing the things you do best rather than shoring up your weaknesses. That book introduced the first version of StrengthsFinder, an online assessment that helps readers identify their top five talents and learn how to use them to their best advantage. To date, nearly 5 million people have been through the StrengthsFinder books and programs, which have been translated into 22 languages and used by companies in 50 different countries.

StrengthsFinder 2.0 (Gallup Press; hardcover; February 2007) upgrades the assessment, making it more valuable to readers. As with the original assessment, the updated version is available online (http:strengths.gallup.com) and can be taken with a unique code that comes with each copy of the book. However, this updated version offers a more in-depth and personal analysis of one's strengths. It also offers perspective on how talents can emerge in different ways for each unique individual.

"We are gratified by the success of StrengthsFinder 2.0," says Executive Publisher Larry Emond. "StrengthsFinder is an important tool in creating and retaining high levels of engaged employees -- a goal of most companies today. That it has found a wider audience in the general public shows the wide appeal for each of us as individuals to find what we do best and then to do it every day at work."

Gallup has also created versions of the assessment for younger generations. StrengthsQuest is Gallup's strengths-development program for high school and college-age students. StrengthsExplorer is for children ages 10-14. The program is a fun, simple way for adolescents to discover and develop their own unique gifts and abilities. An ID code allows youths to access a specially designed website. Then, by answering a series of questions about themselves, they learn about their strengths.

In January 2009, Gallup Press released Strengths Based Leadership. The book reveals three key findings about leadership and offers readers access to a leadership version of the StrengthsFinder program to help them lead with their top five strengths. Gallup scientists surveyed more than 1 million work teams, conducted more than 20,000 in-depth interviews with leaders, and even interviewed more than 10,000 followers around the world to ask exactly why they followed the most important leader in their life. Strengths Based Leadership is a Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and BusinessWeek bestseller.
